When adding an organisation affiliation to a Person in the Person editor window, you can choose to add it as

• Student
• Staff
• Visiting Scholar
• Honorary staff
  

You can for all types connect a Person to a User to create a Personal user and give the user access to Pure. What they can see and do depends on their roles. But as a minimum they will be able to see content they are related to (or when the "my content" filter is removed- all content).
