Name and affiliation renders on content

All content types follow the below rendering logic for person associations (with special rules for research output noted at the end).

Name choice in render

1. If the association is a group author, the group author name is used (currently only available on Research Output)
2. If a name is set on the association that is used
3. If an internal person is set on the association we use:
  a. The person's "known as" name
  b. The person's "primary" name
4. If an external person is set on the association we use the external person's name

Other rendering rules:

Language-oriented name rendering rules:

1. If both first and last name is Korean, Japanese or Chinese we do not render a comma between first and last name and always use the full name instead of initials
2. If the first name is Arabic we only use the first word to create initials from (e.g. John son of Harry becomes just J.)
3. Nicknames are not rendered as part of the name (definition of nickname is using either quotes or parentheses e.g. "JJ" or (JJ))
4. A first name with a hyphen will be shown with the hyphen and the connected words will be shown as initials (e.g. Hans-Peter becomes H.-P.)

Special rules for research output content type:

  • Role is not rendered if the role is “Author”
  • Organisations are not rendered after the name / role
  • Authors are rendered on one line (compared to other renders that render each author on each line)
  • Long renders show first 25 authors (with option to expand to see the rest)
